Email & Webmail

The University sends official communication via email. Each student is responsible for reading official mail that is sent to his or her cnetid@uchicago.edu email address. As a student, you will receive an email account on cMail, the centrally supported email system, when you claim your CNetID; by default, your cnetid@uchicago.edu email will be directed to that account.

NSIT supports several methods for accessing email. If you have problems with any of the following supported methods, you may contact the NSIT Support Line for help. Call (773) 834-TECH or send an email to support@uchicago.edu.

Thunderbird

Thunderbird is an open-source email client that supports a variety of features. It is provided in the NSIT Connectivity Package.

Webmail

Webmail is a multi-featured web-based interface to the cMail system. It is compatible with almost all recent web browsers. Webmail can be accessed at https://webmail.uchicago.edu.

Other Methods

Other methods of accessing email are possible, but are not supported, and the NSIT Support Line cannot provide technical help.

Students who wish to read their cnetid@uchicago.edu email via a personal account may set up mail forwarding. Information about claiming the CNetID and password and establishing mail forwarding may be found on the email web page: http://nsit.uchicago.edu/email.

Students who establish mail forwarding are responsible for updating forwarding functions when necessary.
